Zurich Chamber Orchestra performs at Hamilton College
CLINTON — Hamilton College Performing Arts presents the Zurich Chamber Orchestra with conductor and music director Daniel Hope at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30 in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center, 198 College Hill Road.
Hope leads the orchestra in a program that includes Ralph Vaughan Williams’s “The Lark Ascending,” “Silent Music” by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov and Piotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings.”
He has toured the world as a virtuoso soloist for 30 years and is celebrated for his musical versatility as well as his dedication to humanitarian causes. Hope was appointed music director of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra for the 2016-17 season and has held the position ever since.
Founded in 1945 by Edmond de Stoutz, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra is one of the leading ensembles of its kind. Under the direction of Edmond de Stoutz and later Howard Griffiths and Muhai Tang, the ensemble achieved international recognition. ZCO’s repertoire is broad and ranges from baroque to classical and romantic to the present day.
