Woman who called police about incident arrested on drug charge

A Rome woman was found with a felony amount of cocaine on Wednesday after calling police for a different matter, according to law enforcement officials.

Police said Alicia M. Pugliese, 32, of South George Street, telephoned the department at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday regarding an incident at a nearby FasTrac store. An officer went to Pugliese’s home and interviewed her about the incident.

While she was speaking, police said a small baggie containing a white, chalky substance fell out of her back pocket.

Police said Pugliese continued speaking while she reached down to pick up the baggie, putting it back into her pocket. The officer recognized the drug-like substance in the baggie and Pugliese was taken into custody.

Police said Pugliese was found with 37.1 grams of cocaine. Police said $2,580 in cash was also seized from Pugliese.

Pugliese is charged with one count of third-degree possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony, authorities stated.

She is scheduled to appear in City Court.
