GERMAN FLATTS — A 29-year-old woman was killed when she stepped out in front of a motor vehicle on Route 28 in Herkimer County Thursday afternoon, according to the New York State Police.

Investigators said Krysta S. Wright, of Ilion, may have intentionally walked in front of the oncoming vehicle.

At about 5:13 p.m. Thursday, troopers said Conner M. Voulo, 19, of Fly Creek, Otsego County, was southbound on Route 28 when Wright, a pedestrian, walked into the roadway at the intersection with Ferncliff Road. Troopers said Voulo was unable to avoid hitting Wright with his 2021 Jeep.

Wright was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said.

Witnesses to the crash, as well as video surveillance from the area, indicate that Wright may have purposefully walked in front of the vehicle, authorities stated.

Voulo was not injured in the crash. Troopers said he was cleared for any drug or alcohol impairment. The investigation remains ongoing.
