Whitesboro man receives promotion to senior master sergeant

LATHAM — Airman John McCormick, of Whitesboro, has been promoted to the rank of senior master sergeant at the 224th Air Defense Group during a recent ceremony, according to an announcement by Maj. Gen. Raymond F. Shields, the adjutant general for New York.

McCormick, who is the cyber operations superintendent at the 22th Support Squadron, was one of four senior noncommissioned officers at the 224th Air Defense Group to be promoted in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

Air National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability and development potential, Shields announcement said, adding these promotions additionally recognize the best qualified airmen and attract and retain the highest caliber Citizen Soldiers for a career in the New York Air National Guard.
