Durhamville -- Walter J. Hojnacki, 94, died Tuesday evening, July 13, 2021, in the Extended Care Facility of Oneida Healthcare, where he had been a patient for the past five weeks.
Born in Rome, on January 4, 1927, he was the son of Walter and Frances Sochaky Hojnacki. A lifelong resident of this area, Walt was a graduate of Verona High School. He married Betty J. Mason in the First United Methodist Church, Oneida, on August 21, 1954.
Prior to his retirement, Walt owned and operated a farm in the Town of Verona. He was a member of the Verona United Methodist Church, the New London Masonic Lodge # 420 F&AM, the Oneida County Farm Bureau, the Town of Verona Historical Society and served as a member of the Town of Verona Zoning Board and the board of fire commissioners for New London fire Department.
Surviving besides his wife, Betty, are his daughter, Roxanne Hojnacki, of Vestal, and his son, Lonnie S. Hojnacki and Martha Gilgore of Scotia; his grandchildren, Alexander Gilgore and Miranda Gilgore; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Rasimas and Felicia Havener and three brothers, Casmir, William and Steven Hojnacki.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, July 17, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 250 Main Street, Oneida, with the Rev. Michael Usborne, officiating. Interment will be made in Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, prior to the funeral service.
