OLD FORGE — Have you ever wondered how Medieval chainmail armor was made? Are you interested in jewelry making? Do you want to receive the knowledge to create your own armored bracelet? Join View and local instructor Jacquelyn Koba on July 7 for a jewelry workshop, Chainmail Bracelet, from 1 to 3 p.m. and learn how to manipulate wire into a beautiful intricate bracelet.

Cost for the workshop is $85, $75 for members. Registration ends July 1, so register as soon as possible.

Chainmail is the basic approach to making flexible fabric of interlocking metal rings. In history, mail was used for protective dress, however it has been revived as a jewelry component or as a jewelry form.

This two-hour workshop will introduce the jump ring, key wire gauges, insider diameters, followed up with examples of different types of chain that can be made.

Attendees will learn two patterns and receive enough jump rings and clasp to complete one seven-inch brass bracelet. Presenter Jacquelyn Koba will wrap up with instructions on how to create antique coloring on the brass.

Koba is a full-time freelance artist for the last 20 years, specializing in lampworking glass, jewelry design, metalsmithing and painting. She attended PrattMWP and received a fine arts degree, BA in psychology, from SUNY Poly, and continues to attend workshops and classes.
