Victim in fatal German Flatts crash identified

GERMAN FLATTS — The victim in a fatal Monday night crash on Route 5S has been identified as 38-year-old Vanessa J. Colon, according to the New York State Police.

Troopers said Colon, of Mohawk, likely suffered some type of medical incident while eastbound on Route 5S around 8 p.m. Monday. Troopers said Colon's vehicle sideswiped an oncoming vehicle before crashing into a guardrail and bursting into flames. The vehicle was soon fully engulfed, with Colon still inside.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
