UTICA — The Utica Zoo recently unveiled its winter 2021 virtual education program schedule, as well as a new Facebook users group designed to be a resource for parents and teachers.
With growing numbers of COVID-19 cases locally, the zoo developed these resources as a way to make virtual learning fun and engaging for young students.
The Virtual Hatchlings program is designed for learners aged 2-5 and features a series of 30-minute online programs that will focus on one animal per week for a six week period. Additionally, each session will feature songs, movement, activities, and crafts.
Programs are designed to require parental support to be successful and fully engaging. Sessions are held once a week on Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. on Zoom. The schedule is as follows:
Week 1: Dazzling Dragons – Jan.14
Week 2: Silly Squirrels – Jan. 21
Week 3: Zig-Zagging Zebras – Jan. 28
Week 4: Hooray for Hedgehogs – Feb. 4
Week 5: All about Owls – Feb. 11
Week 6: Awesome Opossums! – Feb. 18
Sessions may be booked individually or as a full six-week package and start at $10 each. Visit UticaZoo.org/education/hatchlings for full details and to book your sessions. The zoo’s Education Facebook Group also contains information for upcoming programs, including Virtual Hatchlings and Virtual ZooMobiles, as well as additional educational resources.
The group can be found at Facebook.com/groups/uticazooeducation. Any questions regarding education programs at the Utica Zoo can be sent to Education Manager Jim Tavares at email@example.com or 315-738-0472, ext. 26.
