Utica teen faces weapon charge

UTICA — A Utica teenager was charged with weapons possession after law enforcers said he was found with a loaded handgun after a shot was fired on Gold Street on Friday.

Police said a group of juveniles was walking through the 100 block of Gold St. on the city’s east side on Friday when they got into an argument with a resident of the block. Police said one of the teens pulled out a handgun and fired a single round into the air, then the group fled the scene.

Officers arrived within moments and were able to detain two of the youths — one of whom was found with a loaded 9mm handgun.

Police said the 16-year-old male, whose identity was not released due to his young age, has been charged with one count each of second and fourth-degree possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to appear in court.
