Utica teen charged with possessing loaded ghost gun
UTICA — A teenager was charged in Utica after a loaded ghost gun was found in the waistband of his pants in the city, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said officers were on patrol in known crime hot spots in the city when they saw two men walking in the roadway obstructing traffic around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The officers stopped and attempted to detain the two men, at which point one of them took off running.
The officers gave chase and detained the man, who was identified as a 17-year-old, authorities stated. His identity has not been released due to his young age. The teen was found with a loaded, 9mm ghost gun tucked into the waistband of his pants, police said.
The teen is charged with second-degree possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, obstructing a governmental administration and walking in the roadway, police said. He is scheduled to appear in court.
