TOWN OF VERNON — Only one minor injury was reported following a two vehicle collision on Route 5 Saturday night, according to law enforcement officials.

Sheriff's deputies said Devonte Dixon, 20, of Utica, was westbound at about 8:15 p.m. when he attempted to pass two vehicles in front of him. While passing in the eastbound lane, deputies said Dixon approached a hill and could not see oncoming traffic.

Deputies said Dixon's 2015 Kia Sorrento collided with a 2009 Kia Borrego, driven by Henry Esser, 77, of Whitesboro. The crash caused Dixon's Kia to hit a utility pole.

Esser's passenger, 75-year-old Patricia Esser, of Whitesboro, suffered a small cut to her hand, authorities said. No other injuries were reported.

Deputies said Dixon was issued five vehicle and traffic tickets and he is scheduled to appear in Town Court.
