Utica man accused of running over girlfriend in car
UTICA — A Utica man is accused of hitting his girlfriend with his car and then backing over her legs on Rutger Street, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said Winston Smith, 22, pulled into his girlfriend's driveway in the 200 block of Rutger St. around 9:45 p.m. Jan. 6 and rammed her with his vehicle, causing her to fall to the ground. Police said Smith then backed out, running over the woman's legs, before leaving the scene.
The woman was treated for her injuries, which police noted were not significant.
Following an investigation, police said Smith was located and taken into custody the following day on one count of attempted second-degree assault. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
