NEW HARTFORD — Both drivers were hospitalized after one driver ran a red light at Burrstone and French roads in New Hartford early Friday morning, causing a two-vehicle collision, according to the New Hartford Police Department.

A police squad car stopped nearby was also damaged in the crash, authorities stated.

Police said Angelia Cihocki, 37, of Boonville, was westbound on Burrstone Road at about 6:15 a.m. Friday when she ran the red light and her 2020 Ford truck crashed into a southbound 2014 Kia, driven by Gery Kochan, 63, of Utica. Police said Kochan had the green light.

The collision caused Cihocki's truck to overturn and crash into a nearby patrol car, police said. Officer Patrick Sacco had been stopped nearby helping a disabled motorist, and was sitting in his patrol car when he witnessed the crash, authorities stated.

Both Cihocki and Kochan were taken to local hospitals for complaints of pain, police said. Officer Sacco was not injured.

Cihocki was ticketed for running the red light, police said. She is scheduled to appear in New Hartford Town Court.
