Two displaced from Herkimer County fire
HERKIMER — Two people have been displaced from their home following the fire on Osborne Hill Road in Herkimer County Tuesday morning, according to the East Herkimer Fire Department.
Fire Chief Theodore Hilts said "smoke detectors alerted them and they were able to exit the home uninjured" at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday at 615 Osborne Hill Road. Firefighters from five local departments responded to the call, working against the heavy snows from Tuesday morning's storm.
"Upon arrival, we found the residential structure fully engulfed," Hilts stated. Due to the snowstorm, he said it took firefighters about three to four hours before the fire was under control.
Hilts said no one was injured and the cause remains under investigation.
The East Herkimer, Newport, Mohawk, Schuyler and Middleville fire departments responded.
