WEST LEYDEN — A body found outside a residence in Lewis County Saturday afternoon is under investigation by sheriff's deputies to determine the identity and cause of death.
The body was discovered after the resident of the home on Mud Lake Road passed away, according to Lewis County Sheriff’s Inv. Edward Amelio.
“The lady that owns the house passed away in the hospital,” Amelio explained.
Following her recent death, Amelio said family members went to her home and they found the body of another individual outside of the residence.
“We have a person who was deceased,” Amelio stated. “We’re still trying to identify who it is. We have a good idea who it is.”
An autopsy is scheduled with a medical examiner to confirm the identity of the deceased and possibly determine the cause of death and how long ago the death occurred. Once they confirm the identity, Amelio said they will notify the next of kin.
The investigator said that no arrests have been made in this case. He said that no other bodies were found in or at the residence.
