Trio to seek reelection in Lewis County

LOWVILLE — Three Lewis County legislators have announced their plans to seek reelection to the county Board of Legislators this November.

They are:

  • Lisa Virkler will seek reelection in District 2, which includes parts of the towns of Croghan and Diana;
  • Ian Gilbert will seek reelection in District 4, which includes parts of the towns of Lowville and New Bremen; and
  • Josh Leviker will run again for the seat in District 7, which includes the towns of Martinsburg and Turin, and part of the town of Lowville.
Virkler, currently chairperson of the Human Resources Committee, said she is dedicated to finding help for those struggling with mental illness and homelessness with a goal of providing resources “to reduce the staggering number of suicides in the area.” She is a nursing supervisor at Samaritan Medical Center and is married with two children.

Gilbert, currently chairperson of the General Services Committee, works to improve economic opportunities to attract young families to the area and sees widespread benefits for everyone by keeping taxes down, the announcement said.

He is an attorney in private practice, and is married with five children.

Leviker, a member of both the General Services and Financial and Rules Committees, is focused on improving recreation and tourism, along with promoting various agriculture businesses, the announcement said.

He is a project manager with Barrett Paving, village of Turin mayor, and president of the Lewis County Snowmobile Association. He is married with two children.

“This trio of leaders represents the balance between veteran lawmakers and the next generation, not as replacements, but diverse partners. Lisa, Ian, and Josh help bridge the gap between the County’s varied demographics and seamlessly work to move the County forward,” said Mike Young, chairman of the Lewis County Republican Committee.
