Treasure trove of activities on tap for Pirates Weekend at Sylvan Beach

SYLVAN BEACH — The pirates are invading Sylvan Beach this coming weekend and the public is invited for four days of fun, food, and festivities.

Thursday, July 14

The Pirate Invasion begins at 5:45 p.m. Coming by boat to the pier bear the bridge, pirates will invade Sylvan Beach. Upon capturing a local celebrity, they will proceed to the village park near Eddie’s. Pirate flags will be displayed in the village.

At 6:10 p.m., the pirates will hold the local celebrity for “ransom,” bringing them to local businesses. All proceeds will benefit local organizations, including the Sylvan Beach Fire Department.

There will be various entertainment venues at local businesses throughout the Beach, including the classic car show near the grassy area of the Beach.

Friday, July 15

  • At 5 p.m. on Friday, there will be pirate activities throughout the village.
  • The Best of the Beach Pirates Grog Crawl will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Participating establishments will have available signature pirate grog for sampling throughout the area. There will be a drawing for prizes at 11 p.m. at Sunset Grill. Punch cards will be available at all participating businesses.

Saturday, July 16 — Family Fun Day

  • At 9 a.m., Breakfast with Pirates will be held at the Pancake House on Main Street.
  • At 10 a.m., crafters, antiques, and vendors will be set up throughout the village. There will also be a Pirate’s Booty Treasure Hunt on the Beach at 15th Avenue. Children can dig for buried coins and redeem them for a toy at the treasure chest.
  • Starting at 11 a.m. and throughout the day, There will be pirate activities at the village band stand, including face painting and hat making.
  • At noon, there will be a “How to be a Pirate” class hosted by Captain Jack at the village bandstand.
  • At 1 p.m., the 8th annual Pirate Parade begins from the DPW/village hall on Harbor View Road and ends in the  village parking lot  lot near the amusement area.
  • At 3 p.m., there will pirate activities for children in the Park.
  • From 3 to 5 p.m., “The Paddy Nappers” pirate band will be in the Park.
  • At 6:30 p.m., there will be a pirate movie showing in the village Park.
  • At 7 p.m., the Pirate Zombie Walk starts near the Erie Canal and continues to the Beach front before ending at the bon fire.
  • At 8:30 p.m., there will be a family bonfire on the Beach at 15th Avenue.
  • At 9:30 p.m. there will be fireworks over Oneida Lake.

Sunday, July 17

  • At 9 a.m., Breakfast with Pirates will be held at the Pancake House on Main Street.
  • At 10 a.m., crafters, antiques, and vendors will be set up throughout the village.
  • Starting at 11 a.m. and throughout the day, There will be pirate activities at the village band stand, including face painting and hat making.
  • At 11 a.m., there will be a Sand Castle Building Contest on the Beach.
  • At 12 p.m, the annual Pirate Puppy Parade will make its way along Main Street, starting near Dollar General
  • At 1 p.m., the Pirate Boat Parade will line up near Fish Creek and proceed west towards the Lake.
  • At 2 p.m., there will be the Pirate Bloody Mary Crawl

Sylvan Beach asks any attendees to abide by the no open container policy as they are offering a friendlier- family-oriented environment. Open container tickets will be issued for fines of $250.
