Tradewinds Center recognizes 2022 graduates

Commencement ceremonies for Upstate Cerebral Palsy’s Tradewinds Education Center graduates in Utica, Rome, and Chadwicks were held last week on their respective campuses.

A total of 29 graduating students were recognized for their achievements as they walked to the stage in their caps and gowns to accept their diplomas with friends, family and staff looking on.

“We have watched these young adults learn and grow over the years,” said Jeremy Earl, senior vice president of education services. “We are so proud of this year’s graduates as they faced the challenges of the pandemic head on and taught our staff ways we can better support the students in our program especially during times of uncertainty. On behalf of our administrators, staff, and board of directors, we want to wish our graduates all the best in their future endeavors.”

The Tradewinds Education Center provides educational and residential services to children between the ages of 5 and 21 with differing developmental or intellectual abilities. The program offers services for students who attend school and return home at the end of the day, as well as for students who attend school and live in residences on three UCP campuses.

The program provides a learning environment that helps each student to be successful and to reach their greatest level of independence, UCP officials said, adding the learning centers include classrooms, gymnasium, outdoor recreation areas, music room and cafeteria, much like any other school.

The centers employ special education teachers, aides, board certified behavior analysts, therapists, nurses, psychologists and administrators.
