VERONA — A threat from a student at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Middle School was found to not be credible, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said a middle school student made a threatening statement on a school bus Thursday afternoon. School administrators notified the school’s special patrol officer Friday morning, leading to an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators determined that the student’s threat was not real and no one was in any danger at any time, authorities stated.

“These kinds of statements can result in fear and stress to not only the students and staff, but the parents as well,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“Please take the time to have a conversation with your children about the consequences of making threatening statements, as the statements that they make could lead to not only consequences from the schools but legal consequences as well.”
