ONEIDA CASTLE — The manhunt continued this morning for the people responsible for the death of 22-year-old Tyler A. McBain in Oneida Castle Tuesday afternoon, according to law enforcement officials and media reports.
According to state police in Seneca County, as reported by WHEC, one person is in custody and a manhunt continued through the night in the woods near the Waterloo Premium Outlets.
State police have not announced any arrests so far in the ongoing homicide investigation.
Troopers said a downstairs neighbor at 91 Seneca Ave. in Oneida Castle heard an argument in the upstairs apartment at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The neighbor saw a male flee the residence and climb into a dark-colored SUV, which then drove away.
When the neighbor went upstairs, state police said they found the body of upstairs resident Tyler McBain. Troopers said McBain was found lying on the floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The neighbor called 9-1-1 at 1:39 p.m. Tuesday.
State police said the suspect vehicle was believed to be headed to the Rochester area.
According to reports on WHEC, state troopers spotted the SUV on the Thruway and attempted to pull it over. Troopers stated that the SUV driver refused to stop and led law enforcement on a chase until the vehicle crashed off Route 318 in the Town of Junius in Seneca County — across the road from the Waterloo Premium Outlets mall.
State police told WHEC that one person was taken into custody immediately after the crash, while a second person fled into the nearby woods. Multiple law enforcement agencies converged on the woods for an overnight manhunt.
More information on the search is expected to be released today. Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call state police at 315-366-6000. All calls will be kept confidential.
