Students shared marijuana-laced food at Madison County middle school
WAMPSVILLE — Several students at Otto Shortell Middle School in Madison County suffered an adverse reaction on Friday after eating food laced with marijuana, according to the Oneida City School District.
Superintendent Matthew T. Carpenter said one student brought the food into the school from home and shared it with several friends on Friday. Several of the students reacted negatively to the food, and a shelter in place order was called for the middle school, officials said.
The food was tested and it was determined to contain marijuana, Carpenter stated.
Emergency medical personnel were called to the school to treat the students and Carpenter said those effected were in stable condition by Friday afternoon.
Carpenter said the school district and local law enforcement personnel are investigating the incident.
"Please be advised the health and safety of our students is the district’s paramount concern," Carpenter wrote in a statement to district parents.
"The district will address this incident in accordance with the district’s code of conduct if warranted."
