Stolen fishing gear recovered in Rome, man charged
ROME — A Rome man was found with more than $2,000 worth of stolen fishing equipment, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police said a load of fishing gear was stolen from a vehicle on North Jay Street on Nov. 27. Between three reels and two rods, the gear was worth $2,625, authorities stated.
The victim later saw his gear advertised on Facebook Marketplace, and police said they tracked the ads to Gerald D. Allen, 35, of Rome. Allen's home was searched and the stolen fishing equipment was found, authorities stated.
Allen was charged on Tuesday with one count of fourth-degree possession of stolen property, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
