In a Friday report from Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office, New York State had tallied a statewide single day 9.75% COVID-19 infection positivity rate, the first time that number has fallen below 10% since Dec. 20, 2021.

Hochul’s office also reported that there were 154 COVID-19-related deaths statewide on Thursday.

In a daily statement, Hochul said, "For the first time since Dec. 20, New York State's percent positivity is in the single-digits … I want to thank New Yorkers for doing the right thing to get where we are in fighting this winter surge. However, this isn't the time to take our foot off the gas. Let's keep using the tools - the vaccine, the booster and masking up - to further bring the numbers down and keep our vulnerable loved ones safe from this virus."

On Thursday, there were 399 new positive cases of COVID-19 and five new virus-related deaths in Oneida County, according to a report.

There were 77 Oneida County residents hospitalized — 24 were unvaccinated and 53 were vaccinated. Further, 52 of the 77 people were hospitalized in the Mohawk Valley Health System, 13 at Rome Health and 12 outside of the county.
