Snowmobiling in city lands Rome man with a ticket

A Rome man was charged with violating a city ordinance for operating his snowmobile on a sidewalk on Ridge Street, according to the Rome Police Department.

Authorities said Dustin M. Johnson, 28, of Henry Street, was spotted riding his snowmobile on a sidewalk on Ridge Street at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the snowmobile became stuck in the snow and Johnson tried to free the sled, then eventually tried to walk away from the scene.

Johnson is charged with operating an off-road vehicle on a public highway/public property, police stated.

He was released on an appearance ticket for Rome City Court, and the snowmobile was seized, the authorities said.
