PRISON UNION RALLY — Several area corrections officers and members of the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association held a rally on Oriskany Boulevard in Whitesboro Friday afternoon to protest poor conditions in state prisons and to call on the government to repeal the HALT Act, which put an end to lengthy solitary confinement. Union officials said the HALT Act has led to more violence against corrections officers, which has contributed to staffing issues and low employee morale. Friday's rally was the fifth and final rally that NYSCOPBA has held across the state.
