Section III teams win hockey state titles
BUFFALO — Section III teams won boys ice hockey state titles in Buffalo over the weekend.
In Division 1, West Genesee Section V’s Pittsford 3-0 in the semifinals Saturday. Then in Sunday’s title game, Wildcats beat defending state champion and top-ranked Suffern of Section I. West Genesee beat the Mounties 6-0, scoring two goals in each period and avenging a 5-2 loss to Suffern in last year’s state final. The Wildcats finish the season 23-3.
The Skaneateles Lakers beat the top-ranked team in New York State, the Salmon River Shamrocks of Section X, in the semifinals 3-2. In the championship game on Sunday, the Lakers met last year’s state champion, the Pelham Pelicans of Section I. Skaneateles scored three first period goals and never looked back, winning 4-1. Skaneateles ends the season 23-2.
Section III had three hockey state champions with the Clinton girls team winning its second title in four years last month.
