Sign-ups are now open for families who wish to receive free toys for their children this Christmas, according to an announcement by the Rome Rescue Mission.
Families who live in Rome with children under age 13 are eligible for the Rome Rescue Mission Christmas gift giveaway, the agency said in an announcement. The process for signing up for the annual program which helps bring joy to hundreds of area children has changed, officials said, in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Parents can sign up for this year’s gift giveaway via online questionnaire, which can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RomeRescueMission2020
“Due to COVID-19, we reconstructed our Christmas Gift Program. The welfare of your family is our priority, and we will have safeguards in place to provide gift items while social distancing,” said Matt Miller, director of the Rome Rescue Mission. “We want to give your family a blessed Christmas.”
The Rescue Mission of Rome expects 500 families to sign up.
Gifts will be distributed at the St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., parking lot on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Valid identification for the parent is required.
Toys will be provided by various community organizations, including Lite 98.7 ‘Christmas Wish to the Rescue, Isabella, Liliana & Friends Annual Toy Drive as well as many area families, individuals and organizations. The Rome Rescue Mission Christmas Toy Drive is sponsored by NBT Bank.
The Rome Rescue Mission is also accepting food and monetary donations, including an estimated need of 1,000 turkeys, for its annual Thanksgiving meal program.
