COLUMN: Seasons change
Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
Many people have asked me why I stay in upstate N.Y. Well, there are many reasons that I can state, however, the one big reason I love NY is the seasonal changes.
Fall is my favorite change of season coupled with the first snowfall. My family and I took trip last weekend to through the Adirondacks. The leaves have changed colors and provided a beautiful landscape for everyone to see majestical beauty come alive. It’s Gods way of showing that change good and healthy. The environment is provided with dead leaves that provides an environment which facilitates microorganisms and enhances their growth in the soil. These leaves contain nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and trace elements. As the season changes, life is ignited in the environment.
Change is good! 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!” We all go through several changes in our lives. For some, the change is for the better. For others, they continue in the same path and are reluctant to change, and for some others, a change for the worse.
God wants all of us to draw near to him, so that change is for the better. Many of us give our lives to Christ and become children of God. (1 John 3 says “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”) This happens when we accept Jesus as our savior, knowing that he died on the cross, was raised on the third day, and sits at the right hand of the Father preparing a place for us.
As we accept this, we have become the new creation in Christ. The old is gone and the new has come. Change — for a new season in life. It’s a season where we don’t want to go back to what we were, instead, become new person that strives to be like Jesus. Although I learn from the past, I do not want to dwell there. As I feed upon Gods word and receive the nutrients that I need to enhance new growth, life is ignited!
Seasons change; life changes, and the outlook is great as I accomplish Gods purpose. My challenge to you today is to accept Christ today, and become that new creation.
