School Boards Institute to host Zoom workshop on becoming board member
The Oneida-Madison-Herkimer School Boards Institute will conduct its annual “How to Become a School Board Candidate and What to Expect if Elected” workshop at 6 pm. Tuesday, March 28 online via Zoom. This informational workshop is free and open to all residents of the Oneida-Madison-Herkimer BOCES region.
Registration to the Zoom site will be from 5:30 to 6 p.m. before the workshop. The agenda will include information on becoming a school board candidate, training requirements for board members and members’ roles and responsibilities.
This program is a direct response to a survey of first-year school board members, who said the information would be helpful to individuals who are considering becoming candidates for their local school boards. There are a total of 65 to 90 seats that are open to candidates qualified to run for their local school board among the 34 school boards in the Oneida-Madison-Herkimer County BOCES region.
To register, call Sue Pontius at 315-867-2610 or email OMHSBI@herkimer-boces.org or call Jim Van Wormer at 315-941-6229 or email jvwormer@gmail.com.
