Scheme to steal diesel fuel busted at Madison County Stewart’s, say troopers
MADISON — Two men from out-of-state have been charged with using a modified big rig and stolen credit cards to buy diesel fuel at a Stewart's Shop in Madison County, according to the New York State Police.
Troopers said Yosiel Ruiz Linares, 30, of New Jersey, and Jaview Martinez Fernandez, 36, of Florida, used stolen credit cards and cloned card numbers to purchase gallons of diesel fuel from the Stewart's on Route 12B in the Town of Madison on Jan. 18. Troopers said the pair used hidden hoses and pumps to send the diesel into a large storage tank inside a modified tractor trailer.
Both men are charged with two counts each of third-degree identity theft and second-degree possession of a forged instrument, four counts of petty larceny and five counts of second-degree possession of a skimming device, authorities stated. They are scheduled to appear in court.
