Sazón Frank Restaurant celebrates grand opening

UTICA — It’s been over a year since Nieve Nunez began operating her family business Sazón Frank Restaurant in Utica, but she finally got to celebrate a grand opening with the city.

Sazón Frank Restaurant has been open since February 2021, but due to COVID restrictions, they were unable to have a grand opening ceremony at the time.

Nunez was joined by her family and Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri in celebrating a proper grand opening.

“When our residents open a new business, it enhances the culture and adds excitement to our entire city,” Palmieri said.

“I congratulate and thank Ms. Nunez and her staff for investing in our community and strengthening the fabric of our culture-rich city,” the Utica mayor added.

Sazón Frank Restaurant is a Dominican-themed restaurant that offers a variety of options, such as roasted chicken, beef stew, rice and beans, empanadas, as well as goat meat and ox tails, according to its owner.

The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating available. Sazón Frank Restaurant is also in close proximity to many other culturally diverse restaurants located along Bleecker St. in Utica.

A native from the Dominican Republic, Nunez’s originally decided to open a restaurant with her husband Frank, who is the namesake of the restaurant in Utica, due to the popularity of her husband’s cooking.

She also wanted to share the Dominican cuisine with the Mohawk Valley.

“We want people to try original food from the Dominican Republic,” Nunez said.

“You don’t have to travel to the Dominican Republic to try our food, it’s right here. We’re generous with our portions and the food is delicious,” the owner added.

Sazón Frank Restaurant is located at 657 Bleecker Street in Utica with their hours of operation being weekdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
