A Family Fun Day event — developed by the Rome Rotary Club in conjunction with the Elks Lodge and the Rome Art and Community Center — is planned to provide children and their families with a fun learning experience that celebrates summer and chases off the summertime stay-at-home blues.
The event will be held on Friday, July 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Rome Art and Community Center, 308 W. Bloomfield St. Families must register by calling 315-827-4303 on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14-15 to sign up for a time slot. Callers must leave a message with the family name and phone number. A return phone call will be made and the first 72 families will be registered. The rain date is Saturday, July 18.
Children aged 4-8 are invited to participate, and there will be six activity challenges, according to an announcement be event organizers. At the end of each activity a sticker will be awarded for completion of the challenge. The completed sticker card may be turned in for a book of the child’s choice at the book store. The family will then progress to the free ice cream stand where all members will be served.
Families will drive to the Rome Art and Community Center at 308 W. Bloomfield St. for their registered time slot. They will sign in and when called they will progress through the activities. Children outside the age range of 4-8 are invited to watch and give encouragement, organizers said, adding that all family members are welcome to have ice cream at the end of the activities.
This event will follow phase four requirements. All organizers will wear masks and sanitize equipment between families. Participants will move through the activities in one direction, and participants will be required to leave the premises when the family finishes all activities and their ice cream, the program announcement said.
