On Sunday, Dec. 6, a socially distanced and masked crowd gathered in front of Rome Memorial Hospital to celebrate the success of the Twigs’ 2020 Tree of Lights campaign with the annual lighting of the tree which stands over the hospital’s North James Street entrance.
Kevin and Christine Barry flipped the switch as those spread out across the front driveway of the hospital watched the tree be lighted. Barry Funeral Home was the event sponsor, donating $1000 to cover the expenses involved in conducting the campaign.
Hospital workers were honored for their service and commitment during these difficult times. In her remarks prior to the lighting, Susan Williams, co-chair of the Tree of Lights committee, recognized the essential work hospital workers do to provide care for patients.
The adjustments they have had to make this year have been challenging, but again and again
they have done so with grace and with consideration of the patients and other staff at Rome Memorial Hospital, Williams added.
The Twigs expressed the gratitude of our community as they recognized and honored their efforts with the Tree of Lights this year, she said.
“This year’s campaign raised $10,000 to help the Twigs, a not-for-profit organization, continuing their long tradition of dedicated service in support of the hospital and its mission,” said Williams. “That is an extraordinary sum, given the circumstances our community finds itself in and the difficulties encountered in conducting the campaign remotely,” she added.
Those dollars go toward programs that contribute to patient comfort and care at Rome Memorial Hospital.
