Rome Rotary seeks old cleats

Rome Rotary is encouraging youth and high school teams to “Bring Out Their Cleats” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, and also on Saturday, March 20 at several area drop-off locations.

Those who donate their lightly worn sports shoes, Rome Rotary will in turn give them to a non-profit that supports the formation of Micro Enterprises in developing nations by providing a variety of shoes to entrepreneurs who resell them in their communities.

Rotary’s goal for the drive-in/drop-off campaign is to collect 1,000 pairs of sports shoes which are still in good condition. Besides the two drive-in/drop-off dates, the entire project runs through the end of March.

Donations can be dropped off any time at 1605 N. George St., at Westernville Public Library, the Griffiss Branch of Community Bank, the Rail and Canal Restaurant and at Ridge Mills Elementary School. Contact Carla Till at 315-336-7883 or Steve Mercurio at 315-795-7997 for more information.

Also, Tatum’s Treats, a Cottage Foods home bakery located in Rome, will donate a percentage of its sales made through the end of March to the Rotary Foundation’s END POLIO NOW campaign to eradicate polio worldwide. Order at:
