ROME — Members of the Rome Rotary Club and the Rome Free Academy chapter of the Interact Club are combining efforts for a special Earth Day project, Canal Clean Sweep, at Bellamy Harbor Park from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 24.

For the 17th consecutive year, the event is being sponsored by Parks & Trails NY, “the leading statewide advocate for parks and trails, dedicated since 1985 to improving our health, economy and quality of life through the use and enjoyment of green space.”

The Rotary Clubs will clean up the shoreline and park on the north side of the Erie Canal from Mill Street to the Mohawk River, and for the section of the Erie Canal Trail from Canal Street to South James Street. The public is welcome to attend. For more information, contact Rotary’s event organizer Cameron Stewart at his email: homebycameron@gmail.com or by phone, 315-351-2765. Volunteers are requested to meet at the Bellamy Park Parking lot on Mill Street. Bring Gloves and other appropriate Personal Protective Equipment. Contractor grade trash bags will be provided and volunteers are encouraged to bring extras. Parks and Trails have provided a limited number of shirts and ditty bags for participants.
