ROME — A Rome man who admitted to beating up a woman on Second Street has been sentenced to a year in county jail.

Reginald J. Behlin, 38, was sentenced by Oneida County Judge Michael L. Dwyer on Tuesday to one year in jail, with credit for time served, on a charge of third-degree assault. An order of protection was also filed against Behlin on behalf of the victim.

Authorities said at about 3 p.m. April 20, Behlin attacked a woman at her home on Second Street. Police said the woman answered the front door and Behlin punched her in the face, causing her to stumble backwards.

Behlin punched the woman in the face a second time, causing her to fall to the floor, police said. Behlin then kicked her on the ground twice before leaving, authorities stated.

The woman was treated at a local hospital.
