Rome man faces weapons charge following gunfire


A Rome man has been charged after gunfire was reported on North Washington Street very early Friday morning, according to a report by law enforcement officials.

Police said there was a report of shots fired in the 300 block at about 3 a.m. Friday.

A suspect was identified as 43-year-old Joseph N. Williams, and he was spotted in a vehicle and stopped on South James Street.

Police said Williams’ intended target remains under investigation. Police said a vehicle was hit by the gunfire but that no people were injured in the shooting.

Williams is charged with one count of second-degree possession of a weapon, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in City Court.
