ROME — A 32-year-old man is accused of stealing from a longtime acquaintance’s garage, according to the Rome Police Department.

Police said John Grass, of Rome, entered a garage in the 500 block of W. Bloomfield Street and stole power tools on Aug. 27. Police said the property owner recognized Grass from being longtime acquaintances and she confronted him.

Following an investigation, police said Grass was located and taken into custody on Sept. 8. Grass is charged with one count each of third-degree burglary and petty larceny, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.

Meanwhile, Grass was also recently charged by the Sheriff’s Office with breaking into a storage unit on Route 233 in Westmoreland. That case remains ongoing.
