ROME — The Rome Community Foundation has awarded $166,350 in grants to Rome area charitable organizations in the latest distributions for the fourth quarter of 2022. The grants, ranging from $2,520 to $35,000, were made to 13 tax-exempt organizations.

According to Victor J. Fariello Jr., executive director of the foundation, the funding was approved by the organization’s Board of Directors based on the recommendations of the Foundation’s Stevens-Kingsley Fund advisers, the Grant Committee, and the Rome Area UW Fund advisors.

“The Foundation is both pleased and proud to make a significant impact on these community organizations to help enhance the quality of life for our residents,” Fariello said.

The recent grant recipients are:

Capitol Civic Center — $35,000;

The Kelberman Center (matching grant) — $20,000;

Zion Episcopal Church — $17,000;

Hospice & Palliative Care — $12,640;

Grace Baptist Church — $10,000;

Mercy Flight Central — $10,000;

Rome Cemetery Association — $10,000;

Salvation Army — $9,875;

Jervis Public Library — $9,720;

YWCA Mohawk Valley — $9,315;

Visiting Nurses Association of CNY — $5,000;

The American Red Cross — $3,500; and

Rome Refugee Services — $2,520.

In addition, the Foundation approved $500 in donor advised funds and $1,280 from the Elizabeth McKinstry Fund that annually makes designated distributions to three area non-profits.

Rome Community Foundation board members meet four times a year to review grant proposals for projects that benefit Rome area residents. The foundation has about $6.5 million dollars in assets which are under professional management. The income from the investments is used to fund grants and has grown since the Foundation was established in 1999.

Officers of the Rome Community Foundation are:

David Grow, president;

Lynn Rosen, vice president;

Julie Grow Denton, secretary; and

Robert Ritz, Treasurer.

The Foundation has been the recipient of bequests from trusts and estates of Rome area residents and accepts contributions and memorial gifts from individual and corporate donors. Donors can request that their contributions be directed to a specific organization or for a specific purpose such as educational, cultural, recreational or health-related.

Donors may also request the establishment of a donor-advised fund, through which the donor may recommend grants to tax-exempt organizations serving the Rome area.
