AVA — Richard J. “Dick” Witzigman, 78, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital.
He was born in Rome, NY, on October 22, 1942, a son of Augustine Aloysius and Pearl Mary Hrynuk Witzigman. He grew up in the Swancott Mills area and attended West Leyden schools. He married Brenda Backer on September 5, 1970, at the Ava Hilltop Methodist Church, a loving union of 51 years. Dick was employed at various construction companies throughout the years where he was a heavy equipment operator. He retired from Green Island Construction Company in 2004. He enjoyed woodworking, going to camp at Witzigman Lake, hunting and his special cat “Missy”.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jeff Williams, Cleveland, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy R. and Tina Witzigman, Boonville; grandchildren, Nicholas (Jerrica) Williams, Alicia and Mike Monks and Timothy R. Witzigman Jr.; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Raymond and Betty Witzigman, Camden and Clarence and Roberta Witzigman, West Leyden; in-laws, Linda Underwood, Lorraine Gardinier and Horace Babe (Carol) Backer; and special close friend, Jim Mondrick. Dick was predeceased by two brothers, Larry (Karen) and Martin (Sandra) Witzigman; in-laws, Albert and Lucille Backer, Shirley Hunt and Brian Underwood.
A funeral service will be held on, Monday, September 13, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, 301 Post Street, Boonville. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior the funeral.
