Renate was born in Pirmasens, Germany, daughter of the late Erich and Hermine Mesletzky on December 12, 1936. She met and fell in love with Carmen Gratch at her place of work while he was stationed in Germany. They were married on April 24, 1965, in Rome, NY, and lived there until this year. She enjoyed many years of friendships and family time playing cards, talking over cake and coffee and shopping. Later, she loved beautiful flowers and spending time in the backyard with her favorite neighbors, and going to the casino with one of her many best friends. Most recently, she was able to enjoy some time with her grandchildren and cats.

Renate is survived by her daughters, Ingrid Davies (Darrell), Las Vegas, NV, Donna Gratch Manion, Rome, NY, and Monica Metz (Brian), Richmond, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, who meant everything to her, Anthony Barber (April), Aidan Metz, and Samara Metz. She leaves behind a brother, Hans (Edith) Mesletzky, Germany, a sister-in-law, Lucille Gratch, Manhattan, NY, brother-in-law, Michael Gratch, Oklahoma City, OK. Renate leaves behind her nephew and niece who she loved very much, Steffen Mesletzky and Luci Ann Gratch. She leaves behind many friends and neighbors that she loved so dearly and were especially hard for her to leave. She missed you all more than you know. Gratch; father and mother, Erich Mesletzky and Hermine Bauer; father-in-law, Angelo Gratch, mother-in-law, Angelina Gratch; sister-in-law, Susan Gratch; and granddaughter, Myia Angelina Metz.

The family would like to thank the many nurses, CNAs PT OT and STs at Beth Sholom Unit 1 for all of their help with Renate. Your kindness and professionalism is appreciated.

We will have a small graveside service for her in May, per her wishes. As we get closer, we will post once more.
