Registration fees to increase for Boilermaker’s Erie Canal Races

MARCY — Registration fees for the Boilermaker’s Erie Canal Races will increase Monday.

The event, which features a 10-mile run, as well as a two-person 10-mile relay and 5K race, will is scheduled for Sunday, May 21. In a change, the event is taking place at Whitesboro High School in Marcy. That’s a shift from its previous course included Whitesboro Street near the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica.

Boilermaker Marketing Director Scott Gwilt said the change was made because of the potential for traffic-related issues with Nexus Center now open. Gwilt said when the event was in Utica participants “had to cross over a canal lock to get to the trail.”

With the event at Whitesboro High School, “We’ll be able to hold the race with only one traffic crossing and the runners will be on the Erie Canal trail for nearly the entire race,” Gwilt said in an email.

New this year, the 10-mile run and relay will start at 8 a.m. on the track of Whitesboro High School, which is located Route 291 in Marcy. The 5K will also begin on the track at Whitesboro High School at 8:20 a.m. All races will end in the same location.

Runners who register by Sunday, May 6, are guaranteed a moisture-wicking T-shirt and a finisher’s medal, according to a release from Boilermaker officials.

Registration will be capped at a total of 550 runners across the three races.

Registration and additional information for the races can be found at boilermaker.com.
