The Staffworks Fund has awarded a grant for $2,500 to the R-CATS Program to help fund costs to spay/neuter and vaccinate homeless cats in Rome.
The R-CATS Program has seen its donations all but come to a complete stop this year due to COVID-19, program officials said, putting a huge strain on the small organization’s limited reserves and threatened its ability to continue their programs and services.
“We are committed to preventing pet homelessness, and by supporting R-CATS Programs spay/neuter efforts, we help address the problem of overpopulation,” said Anita A. Vitullo, founder of the Staffworks Fund. “Providing spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations is a critical part of reducing the euthanasia of unadoptable community cats in Oneida County and in preventing the endless intake of unwanted animals into area shelters.”
“This donation is another example of the Staffworks Fund’s commitment to supporting R-CATS Program’s lifesaving mission,” said Allison Nickerson, R-CATS President. “We’re grateful for their support and commitment to improve the quality of life and reduce the number of community cats.”
The R-CATS Program, established in 2011, works with people caring for community cats in the Rome area assisting with spaying/neutering and vaccinating the community cats. The organization’s mission is the humane approach to community/feral cat population management using a trap/neuter/vaccinate/return program.

Since 2018, the Staffworks Fund has donated $9,166 to the R-CATS Program. The Fund has given more than $2.3 million to non-profit organizations throughout our regional community that provide direct care and services for animals that have been abandoned, abused or have other needs.
In 2005, Vitullo established The Staffworks Fund at the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties. The sole mission of the Staffworks Fund is supporting nonprofit organizations that care for at-risk animals. Staffworks has assets of over $12.4 million under management at The Community Foundation. Staffworks Inc. profits provides the financial support for the Staffworks Fund. Staffworks Inc. was founded by Vitullo in 1997 and has eight offices serving central New York State.
