UTICA — A Utica man was found with a loaded ghost gun and a quantity of crack cocaine on the city's east side late Sunday night, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said Desmond Anthony, 36, was spotted with a handgun at a convenience store at the intersection of Albany Street and Kossuth Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Police said they responded to the scene and spotted Anthony leaving the store.

When officers attempted to stop him, police said Anthony grabbed onto his waistband and fled on foot. The officers gave chase and said Anthony was spotted tossing the gun away. He was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

The gun was recovered and police said it was a loaded, 9mm ghost gun. Police said Anthony was also found with a small baggie of crack cocaine in his pocket.

Anthony is charged with one count each of second and third-degree possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree obstruction of a governmental administration and seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
