Police seek female suspect in gunpoint robbery

OJ’s Smoke Shop, 504 S. James St., was robbed at gunpoint Thursday morning and law enforcement officials said they are searching for the female thief. No arrests have been made so far.

Rome Police Detective Commander Kevin James said a woman “covered head to toe” in black clothing and wielding a handgun entered the cigar shop at about 9:15 a.m.

James said the woman wore black clothing and a black head and face covering.

The thief “threatened the owners inside with a handgun,” James explained. The gun was not fired and no one was injured. James said the thief grabbed cash and property from OJ’s and fled the store on foot. She was last seen running northbound.

The suspect is described as about 5-feet to 5-feet, 2-inches tall and weighing roughly 120 pounds, police said.

Detectives are asking any residents in the South James Street area who may have home security cameras to check their footage for possible signs of the suspect.

Anyone with footage or information on the robbery is asked to call Detective Bryan M. Zoeckler at 315-339-7712. Anonymous tips can be sent to www.MohawkValleyCrimeStoppers.com or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-866-730-8477.
