Police say teen fired gunshots in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD — A Utica teenager is accused of opening fire on another person on Merritt Place, according to law enforcement officials.

Police said Nino J. Brown, 18, fired three shots from a gun at another person on Merritt Place at about 2 p.m. Saturday. Police said the victim took cover inside a residence, and one of the bullets hit near the front door jam of that residence. Police said Brown and the victim were familiar with one another.

Merritt Place runs between Clinton Road (Route 12B) and Grandview Avenue in the town.

Authorities said Brown fled the scene on a bicycle heading towards Utica.

On Tuesday, police said Brown was located in Utica and was taken into custody. Brown is charged with one count each of first-degree reckless endangerment, attempted first-degree assault and second-degree possession of a weapon, all felonies, authorities stated. He was arraigned in Town Court and was sent to county jail in lieu of bail. Brown is scheduled to reappear in court.
