Police say man stole $247 worth of meat from store


A Rome man is accused of stealing more than $200 worth of meat from the Aldi store on South Madison Street, according to law enforcement officials.

Police said Mark I. Whitted, 56, of North Madison Street, stole $247 worth of meat products from Aldi on June 29. Police said evidence of the theft was turned over to City Court and a criminal summons was issued for Whitted.

Whitted answered the summons on Tuesday and is charged with one count of petty larceny, police stated.

He is scheduled to reappear in court.
