UTICA — A 53-year-old man is accused of stabbing a woman with a kitchen knife in Utica Monday evening, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said Willie Banks, of Utica, got into an argument with the woman Monday evening, then he grabbed her by the head and demanded property from her. Police said Banks stabbed the woman in the chest with a kitchen knife before he fled the scene.
The woman was able to walk to the Park Avenue fire station at about 7:30 p.m. with the knife wound to the left side of her chest, authorities stated. She was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery. Officials said she is expected to pull through.
Banks was located and taken into custody on Tuesday, authorities said. The knife was also recovered, having been tossed at a building on Park Avenue near Kemble Street.
Banks is charged with one count each of attempted first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and third-degree possession of a weapon, all felonies, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
