Police say man shoved woman, causing her to hit coffee table

A 40-year-old man was charged on Thursday with fighting with his girlfriend in Rome, according to law enforcement officials.

Police said Jay M. Mather, of William Street, was in an argument with his girlfriend at their residence at about 8 p.m. Aug. 9.

During the argument, police said Mather grabbed the woman by the arms and shoved her to the ground, causing her to hit the coffee table on her way down.

Police said Mather was in violation of an order of protection at the time.

Police said he fled the residence and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Mather was located and taken into custody on Thursday on one count each of second-degree harassment and second-degree contempt, police stated.

He is scheduled to appear in City Court.
