One man is dead after a shooting inside a business in Utica’s Cornhill district on Friday, according to law enforcement officials.
No arrests have been made so far.
Police said 26-year-old Lemeke Pittman was inside a business at the corner of Seymour Avenue and James Street when the gunman walked in and began shooting him at about 12:45 p.m. Rescue personnel arrived within minutes and Pittman was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.
Police said Pittman died from his injuries at the hospital. Pittman was from Utica.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large, police said. The shooting has been classified as a homicide.
As a precaution, authorities said all buildings in the Utica School District were placed on lockdown.
